Charming walking routes by the lake

Walking along the shore of Lake Mikołajskie, it is difficult not to succumb to its charm. It is one of the most representative parts of the town. It is an excellent destination for a lazy morning stroll or a romantic walk at sunset. The route leads all the way to the Sailing Village. Along the way, you can stop for a coffee, eat fresh fish or sit on a bench and watch the yachts. In summer, the promenade is bustling with life. Street artists play, and the smell of numerous delicacies mixes with the scent of the forest and water. Out of season, it becomes quiet. It is then worth taking a longer walk towards Lake Tałty or even towards the settlement of Łuknajno. Another interesting route is the path leading along the canal connecting Lake Mikołajskie with Lake Tałty. Walking there, you will pass private piers and gentle descents to the water. It is an ideal place to relax on a sunny day.

Historic corners and attractions of Mikołajki

The old town is definitely worth a visit. It will allow you to learn more about the history of not only Mikołajki, but also the entire region. The streets in the centre lead you to a distinctive 19th-century Evangelical church. Its red tower towers over the roofs and is an excellent landmark. Be sure to take a stroll down Kajki Street. It is the oldest street in Mikołajki. Pre-war tenement houses and typical Masurian architecture have been preserved there. Nearby is the Museum of the Polish Reformation. It is intimate and filled with interesting facts about religious culture. If you are going for a walk with children, you can play a game with them. Encourage them to look for decorative elements in the shape of fish. They are visible on many buildings, but sometimes you have to look closely to spot them. This will make the trip interesting and exciting for them.

A walk in nature – paths in the Piska Forest

The centre of Mikołajki is just a few minutes by bike or car from the Piska Forest. It is the largest forest complex in this part of Poland. It abounds in various trails and educational paths. It is a great place for a longer walking trip. Away from the crowds, among spruce and birch trees. We recommend the UNESCO-protected Łuknajno Lake reserve. A walk there will allow you to observe stunning birds. Swans, grebes, numerous species of ducks and more. The route is not demanding, and the views are breathtaking. In the Piska Forest itself, you will also find picturesque spots for picnics. Take your binoculars with you. You can often see deer, wild boars, foxes and even lynxes. The forest air, soft moss under your feet and the rustling of trees will make such a trip extremely relaxing.

Family-friendly places

A walk around Mikołajki will be an opportunity for the youngest visitors to get some exercise and discover the world. There are several playgrounds in the town centre. However, the biggest attraction will be the marina and yacht harbour. It is there that children watch sailboats, motorboats and kayakers with bated breath. Along the promenade, there are also alleys with interactive educational boards. They tell about the fauna and flora of Masuria. Thanks to them, an ordinary walk turns into a game of discovery. In high season, it is also worth visiting the amphitheatre or stopping at one of the souvenir stands. Older children will certainly be interested in the pier. Younger ones will enjoy a ride on the tourist train that runs around the town. Looking for quieter spots? Take a walk along the alley on Mrągowska Street. There is no shortage of greenery and benches there.

Where to go for a walk with your dog in Mikołajki?

Mikołajki is an animal-friendly town. Many dog owners choose this place for their holidays with their pets. Walking with your four-legged friend will be a real pleasure here. The promenade by the lake is wide and safe. Many places offer water bowls. Some establishments allow dogs in their gardens. An excellent place for a trip with your pet is the route leading towards Woźnice. There is little traffic there and the views are very nice. The forest on Warszawska Street is a good place for a quick morning walk. Your dog can sniff around freely, and you can get some fresh air before breakfast. Remember that dogs must be kept on a leash in many forest areas. If your pet likes water, it will enjoy the shore of Lake Tałty. It offers access to shallow water, which will allow you to cool off on a hot day.
